This project started over 20 years ago when, caught up by the pageantry and excitement of the FIFA World Cup, I made a series of drawings from the 1994 games as a springboard for paintings. Subsequently, every four years I’ve continued to explore the rich visual dynamics of these soccer matches with the constaint that each composition be realized during a live TV broadcast. Someday, I hope to stage an exhibition that invites people to witness the evolution of a new series while enjoying the broadcasts; by the final, the walls will be filled with past and present compositions.
